This stone's two-part name comes from two different cultures: lapis is a Latin word meaning "stone," while lazuli comes from the Persian word lazhuward meaning "blue." In ancient times Lapis Lazuli was most highly regarded because of its beautiful color and the valuable ultramarine dye derived from it. It is rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite and Pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). In both Egypt and Persia, the stone was associated with the night sky, and was a highly prized jewel of Kings and Queens.
It is associated with wisdom and knowledge, and is said to aid writers, performers and leaders if they wear it while pursuing their dreams.
Converted from an antique brooch, this large statement ring has a sizeable lapis stone with a scattering of pyrite flecks across its face. The setting is late Edwardian transitioning into Art Deco, and we have perfectly paired it with an antique replica shank in Sterling silver. A great accessory to wear every day for all the dreamers and deep thinkers!
