Victorian gentlemen tended to decorate their watch chains with fobs. Watches were worn in the waistcoat pocket, with a chain attached for easy access. The fob helped to add a counterweight so the chain wouldn't be pulled by the heavier watch. Some fobs were merely ornamental, and others held a practical purpose, used as a key to wind their watch.
This watch key fob, crafted in gold-filled metal has a little hand carved orb made of agate. With the coloring and stripes on the agate, as well as the Victorians love of all things Celestial, we have named this handsome guy "Lord Jupiter"! A wonderful little relic from the past, great for wearing as a charm on a bracelet, or layered with chains as a 'neck mess'.
