Romanticism (Romantisme in French) was a literary and artistic movement that appeared in France in the late 18th century, largely in reaction against the formality and strict rules of the official style of Neoclassicism. This period fell roughly between 1815 and 1850, with key styles such as Rococo Revival, Gothic Revival and Orientalism which were characterized by dramatic, ornate forms and favored intense emotion and nature.
This open work French ring from the period is crafted in 18 karat gold, with a silver top set with glittering marcasite. A ruby paste stone rests in the center, with two emerald paste stones at North and South. A wonderful example of the Romantic period, with its elaborate Gothic Revival design!
