Persian turquoise was very popular among Victorians. It was brought to Europe via Turkey, and called “Pierre Turquoise” (Turkish Stone) by the French. It is harder than American turquoise, and has a pure blue color with no matrix, which was desirable in the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria was very fond of the stone, gifting her bridesmaids with pieces which included it, which added to its popularity. In many cultures, it is said to bring protection, health, prosperity and love. Some wore it to ward off the Evil Eye.
This unique Persian turquoise ring has the sensibilities of Victorian style, although according to its hallmarks, it was produced in 1904, early in the Edwardian Era. Crafted in 9 karat yellow gold, bright blue Persian turquoise stones form two flowers side by side. A ribbon and bow of seed pearls spans the top, making a wonderful little posey for your hand!
