The lily flower has been a symbolic motif since ancient times. Connected to royalty, it was often used on crests and in architecture. The French adopted it in the form of a fleur de lis, as did Florence and parts of Scotland. The Victorian Era enjoyed a trend called the Language of Flowers, where every blossom and leaf known were given hidden meanings. Lilies could represent many things during this time, depending on the hue of the bloom. For instance, pink lilies were associated with femininity and love, while orange and yellow lilies meant joy and energy. The most commonly portrayed lily was the white one, symbolizing purity, death and grief. White lilies were prominent flowers at funerals, and are still displayed at Easter time, when the death and resurrection of Christ is celebrated.
Originally a stickpin, we have paired this striking lily with a simple band. The textured petals of the miniature flower cradle a natural baroque seed pearl 'stamen', while a golden circle haloes the blossom. A lovely piece with a graceful style you'll fall in love with!
