Antique 14K, Pomponne & Hand Painted Limoges Enamel Conversion Ring

The technique of enameling on jewelry originated in Limoges, France during the 16th century, and was perfected in the 17th century, bringing fame to the region where it is still recognized for beautiful enameled pieces today. The process involves applying a white base over a copper or gold disc, then using ground glass pigments. Then it is applied and fired, with a smooth, glossy surface as the result.

Originally a stickpin, this gorgeous conversion ring has a 14 karat yellow gold shank with the original element set in pomponne. A figure of a woman in a helmet (most likely the Greek goddess Athena) has been executed by hand in a pallette of blue tones, mimicking popular fine china patterns popular during the Victorian Era. Eye catching and classic, it will become a favorite conversation piece in your collection!
