Believed to have been created by Marie Antoinette's favorite jewelry designer Jean-Baptiste Mellerio, and popular through the Georgian and Victorian eras, acrostic jewelry spelled out secret, hidden messages decoded by the names of the gems used. Among the most popular messages, as seen on this colorful ring, was the word "regard," spelled out with a ruby, an emerald, a garnet, an amethyst, another ruby, and a diamond. During the mid twentieth century, Victorian aesthetics were embraced, most notably in jewelry and the Victorian Revival was born.

This vintage English ring is crafted in 9 karat yellow gold with the word 'REGARD' worked into the shank. The colorful, sparkling stones correspond with each letter: Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, Amethyst, and Diamond. A romantic piece that echoes the past beautifully!
