The Grand Tour was a rite of passage for well-to-do members of the upper classes in England and America during the Victorian Era. A popular segment of the trip included Italy, considered to be a romantic and richly historic country. Jewelry and trinkets were purchased as souvenirs to be brought back and enjoyed, and charm bracelets were a fun fad that Queen Victoria made popular.
This wee boot, made of red-orange coral, bone, and green malachite was painstakingly carved and capped with a 9 karat yellow gold bale, perfect for adding to a charm bracelet, or perhaps a watch chain. The significant appeal of this piece is that Italian jewelers, aware of their geography, were creating these items to mimic the boot shape of Italy on a map. A darling charm, sure to bring a smile every time you wear it!
