During the Aesthetic Period of the Victorian Era (1860-1900), insect motifs became quite popular. Women adorned themselves with insect jewelry, wearing them on shawls, jackets, hats and even decorating their parasols with multiple little glittering creatures! The Arts and Crafts movement (1880-1910) overlapped this time frame, with simpler designs and more visually obvious process techniques. This wonderful scorpion brooch was a popular design, more often employing moonstones as the gems in the setting, but opals were also a preference.
Crafted in sterling silver, this magical piece has one large and ten small glowing, fiery opal cabochons adorning the body. Wonderfully and whimsically formed, he will be your favorite companion all day long!
