"Amaltheia"

Antique Silver, Diamond, Garnet & Hand Painted Porcelain Brooch

In Greek mythology, Amaltheia is the nymph who serves as the wetnurse for Zeus, the ruler of Olympia. She is described as feeding him the milk of her fierce goat. In later stories, she becomes the goat herself. This illustrative description reinforces the power that Zeus held, as he is later described to wear the goatskin in battle.

Crafted in silver, this rare brooch has a hand painted scene of Amaltheia holding the goat still while the infant Zeus feeds from it. Most bizarre, utterly weird and a true one of a kind piece! Embellished with diamonds and two garnets, it is one conversation piece that will take you into the wee hours of a hedonistic night!
