Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry, and glass design.  It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the heavier, more somber feel that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. During this time, artists turned to nature and fantasy for subject matter, with fowers, fairies and goddesses taking prominence.

This gorgeous Art Nouveau brooch features a stylized poppy flower with flowing leaves and a dark blue sapphire center stone. The gold filled finish has a satin-like appearance, showing off the organic lines of the piece. A hook at the base serves as the perfect perch for any dangling stones, drops or charms you'd like to add, while a bar crosses the top for threading a velvet ribbon. Versatile, elegant and absolutely beautiful!
