Libra (Latin for "scales") is the seventh astrological sign in the zodiac. It spans 180°–210° celestial longitude.  The Sun transits this sign on average between September 22 and October 23. The symbol of the scales is based on the Scales of Justice held by Themis, the Greek personification of divine law and custom. She became the inspiration for modern depictions of Lady Justice. The ruling planet of Libra is Venus. Libra is the only zodiac sign that is represented by an object; with the other eleven signs represented by either an animal or mythological character.

The Lapis Lazuli stone's two-part name comes from two different cultures: lapis is a Latin word meaning "stone," while lazuli comes from the Persian word lazhuward meaning "blue." In ancient times Lapis Lazuli was most highly regarded because of its beautiful color and the valuable ultramarine dye derived from it. It is rock formed by multiple minerals, mostly Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite and Pyrite, and is a rich medium to royal blue with gold flecks (pyrites). In both Egypt and Persia, the stone was associated with the night sky, and was a highly prized jewel of Kings and Queens. It is associated with wisdom and knowledge, and is said to aid writers, performers and leaders if they wear it while pursuing their dreams.

Crafted in 18 karat yellow gold, this pendant is made of carved Lapis Lazuli, a beautiful, deep blue stone flecked with shining pyrites and pale veining. It's easy to see why this would be associated with the night sky! Aptly decorated with a set of golden scales, it is a piece any Libra would dream of!
