Antique 14K, Silver & Diamond Ring

Although diamond engagement rings among the aristocracy were common from the 15th century and on, it wasn't a widespread practice until the Victorian Era. A popular design was the "daisy", a solitaire diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds to represent a flower. Daisies were associated with loyalty, purity and innocence, the very attributes sought after in a new bride.

Today, this style of ring is not reserved for matrimonial wear only. Cocktail rings and rings intended for the middle or index fingers are often designed in the flower-like shape, and are appropriate to wear for any occasion.

This example is crafted in 14 karat yellow gold, with sparkling rose cut diamonds set in silver, which was the custom of the Era; utilizing silver contributed to the white appearance of the diamonds. With time, the silver setting on this ring has darkened, creating a greater contrast between the diamonds and the setting. We are getting Gothic snowflake vibes, two things sure to make you shiver every time you put it on your finger!
