Here's a curious little object of interest: an amethyst carved into a rat draped over an anatomical heart! Probably Chinese in origin, it may be symbolic of the rat found in the Chinese zodiac. Those born under the sign of the rat are said to be associated with wisdom, wealth and prosperity. Legend tells us that the rat was the first animal to arrive when the Jade Emperor called all animals to appoint the zodiac signs, and therefore starts the twelve year cycle.
