The custom of wearing mourning clothing and jewels was very important during the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria made the trend popular by going into mourning for her beloved Prince Albert, and remaining in black until her death. Most ladies wore black for at least one year after the death of a family member. They were permitted after a time to wear jewelry, but the pieces were required to have black incorporated into them somehow.

This ring has been converted from a Victorian stick pin.  Crafted with expertise from 14 karat gold and polished black onyx, it is comprised of tiny paisley shapes laid in concentric circles, forming a flower-like motif.  Mounted on a replica shank chosen with great care, it is a beautiful little blossom that has taken on a new life in this ring that is perfect for everyday wear, and is dramatically dignified enough for a formal occasion as well!
