SOLD Antique French Regional Silver & Paste Collier d'Yvetot Necklace

A collier d'Yvetot is named after a town in Rouen, in the Northern part of Normandy. Always crafted in silver and paste, they were worn in the region as part of a wedding trousseau from about 1830-1850.  It is extremely rare to discover a full necklace with the pendant intact, as these elements were often removed after the trend went out of fashion. However, there was a resurgence and an interest in collecting 'peasant' jewelry during the 1880s, and sometimes today, these necklaces can be found in Paris as well as the countryside.

Beautifully and intricately crafted, this collier d'Yvetot is in pristine condition! In its original form, with two bales at the back to thread a ribbon through for comfort and adjustable wearing. A spectacular piece of French history, worthy of a museum exhibition, it is a must-have for any serious antique jewelry collector!
