Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry, and glass design. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the heavier, more somber feel that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. During this time, artists turned to nature and fantasy for subject matter, with fairies and goddesses taking prominence.
Converted from an antique pin, this wonderful little art work features 'Automne" in all her voluptuous glory! An upswept hairdo has leaves and grapes falling from it, while the beautiful woman wears a tiny choker with two chip diamonds set in it (we do love it when our jewelry wears jewelry!). The perfect ring for anyone born during the Autumn months, or anyone with an artistic and dramatic flair!
