The snake motif has been utilized in jewelry since the Ancients. Long considered as a symbol of royalty and wisdom, it has been documented that Cleopatra was famous for her snake jewelry. Later, the design was popularized during the Victorian Era when Prince Albert famously presented Queen Victoria with an engagement ring in the form of a snake. Representing eternal love, that ring caused a sensation, and snake jewelry has been a fashion statement ever since.

During the Victorian Era, it became popular for gentlemen to give their new brides a little token in the form of a crescent moon. It was a way of celebrating what would be their new life together, and to bless their honeymoon after the wedding. Often, the crescents would be worn in the bridal veil during the ceremony, and then pinned to the lapel for the honeymoon.

This fantastic brooch incorporates both romantic traditions, and we couldn't be more in love with it! Made of 9 karat burnished yellow gold, it has a perfect crescent moon accented with tiny seed pearls as the base.  A writhing snake twines around the moon, the mouth and tail connected by two luscious rubies and a seed pearl in clover formation. From every aspect, it is a perfectly conceived and crafted piece sure to entice and delight the antique jewel connoisseur as well as anyone who appreciates  sexy symbolism in one little trinket!
