The era we now know as "Art Deco" received its name from the Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. The style embraced a cleaner line and more geometric shapes than seen in the past.  Emphasis was placed on the relationship between art and modern industry. Also around this time, gem cutters learned how to achieve brilliance from faceted gems in new ways, resulting in new shapes that were arranged in mosaic-like designs. Because of its great strength, platinum was being used since it required less metal to hold a gem securely, and the result was much lighter and airier design.

This example of the beautiful Art Deco style incorporates deep blue faceted sapphires accented with icy diamonds. The handsome shank upholds the integrity of the design, which focuses on the shining gems. The allure it holds is a testimony to Art Deco and its endurance in the world of jewelry!
