Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry, and glass design. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the style that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. Even today it projects a sense of new beginnings and new freedom in style and fashion. Free flowing hair and vines were an especially popular design motif of the period.
This ring is a definitive example of the genre. It depicts a beautiful woman with flowing hair and organic lines swirling around her face, like an image in a dream. Originally a cuff link, we have had it converted into a ring using a vintage wedding band in 18 karat yellow gold.
