In the Victorian language of flowers, the  name Pansy derived from the French word "penser" for " to think."   It represented the idea that one would think of and consider the memory of a loved one who departed.  But sometimes it was an indication of love interest between a couple.  As courting was very formal in Victorian society, one could offer a potential love interest a pansy to indicate that they were being admired and thought of. The motif was often incorporated into mourning jewelry, which was a popular trend of the era.

These well loved antique earrings have tiny pansies made of miniscule tiles, called Micromosaics. Set in 14 karat gold and fashioned to dangle, they are a quaint and charming treasure from the Victorian Era.
