This ring was converted from a  multi-stone scarab bracelet, a popular souvenir, starting in the late 19th century, when the Egyptian Revival was, itself, revived after the opening of the tomb of Tutanhkamen in 1922. Egyptian themes, like the scarab, quickly became a staple of the Art Deco period. Fittingly, the scarab represents rebirth. This version actually hails from the 1960s which goes to show that "Egyptomania" never dies!

Glowing green onyx, simply and rather naively carved to resemble a scarab is set in 14 karat yellow gold on a simple shank with shoulders evocative of an Eastern ogee design. A great piece to wear every day, we have named her "Eshe", which means Life. A great little symbol to enjoy in your collection!
