Scrimshaw is a carving technique most commonly associated with whalers. Designs are etched and scrolled into bone to create decorative pieces. The craft has been practiced for centuries, and continues to be popular today, with all nationalities participating, such as this example, which is most likely Chinese.

Depicting a darling, detailed monkey on the front, we just couldn't resist this strange and wonderful pendant! The reverse has engraved year dates for the Chinese Zodiac calendar Year of the Monkey. A fun, fanciful and oh-so-Koven piece, it will definitely spark intrigue and conversation!
