From ancient times to present day, men have worn rings to signify wealth, privilege and status. The signet ring was typically worn on the pinkie finger, with the ring used to imprint a wax seal on a document or letter. During the Victorian Era, it was common for a gentleman to maintain correspondence during all times of the day, even when not at home, and to have his seal on his person was a necessity. With his signet, the recipient was assured that the note was authentic, even if it was dashed off in haste. You might say that this was the Victorian version of texting!

This handsome ring is made of 14 karat gold and has a carved signet stone. It sports a stoic lion atop a family shield, with the Latin phrase "FAC ET SPERA", which translates to 'Make Trust'. The words appear in reverse, so that the seal would be readable when stamped. No longer just for "the boys", it's a piece that can be worn by any sex, and is in wonderful, solid condition!
