Set in a beautifully patinaed 10 karat yellow gold shank, this cameo ring is both imposing and unusual. Carved from chocolaty brown agate, it depicts not one, but TWO profiles! The left figure wears the helmet of a Spartan soldier and at his right, facing the opposite way, is most likely a depiction of Ares, the god of war. Spartans were renowned for their bravery and expertise on the battlefield, and a signet ring such as this would be fitting for a military man serving, or having served his country during the Victorian Era and beyond.
