This ring is a beautiful example of an enameled romantic ring. Enameling, the fusion of powdered glass to metal, is one of the oldest forms of surface decoration. The shield was a poplar motif in the latter part of the Victorian era and when the ring was acquired in England, it was called Austro-Hungarian. The tiny pearl in the center is surrounded by beautiful multicolored enameling and the delicate design contrasts with the powerful shield shape, creating an overall unique artistic effect.
