The technique of enameling on jewelry originated in Limoges, France during the 16th century, and was perfected in the 17th century, bringing fame to the region where it is still recognized for beautiful enameled pieces today. The process involves applying a white base over a copper or gold disc, then using ground glass pigments, it is applied and fired. In this piece, the enamel has been foiled, giving the scene a depth and saturation that really glows!

Small but intense, this little brooch makes an impact! Framed in silver with seed pearl accents, the focus is on the portrait of an exotic woman richly clad in a green dress and red headdress. Her accessories are indicated in gold.  A wonderful piece at a great price point, perfect for the budding antique jewelry collector!
