The Maltese Cross was officially adopted by the Order of the Knights Hospitallers of St. John in 1126. The eight points on the cross denote the eight obligations of the order of St. John, namely “to live in truth, have faith, repent one’s sins, give proof of humility, love justice, be merciful, be sincere and whole-hearted, and to endure.”
Crafted in 15 karat yellow gold, this spectacular Maltese cross has neutral toned agate in Collet settings. A Collet setting is designed as a ring or rim of metal, rising perpendicular to the surface of the item and designed to encircle the girdle of a gemstone. The upper edge of the collet is pressed over onto the crown of the stone thereby securing the gem in place. Turn this cross over, and you'll find a perfect plait of brunette hair under glass on the reverse. It has a pin as well as a bale, making for versatile wearing. A wonderful, Gothic piece that will be an amazing addition to your collection!
