In the Catholic religion, it is believed that wearing a medal with the image of a saint will bring protection and answered prayers. The practice is not limited to Catholics alone; other Christian denominations also hold these talismans as sacred. It has been traditional for a child receiving their first communion to receive a medal of the Virgin Mary, mother of Christ. The young girls who were gifted these medals would wear them around their necks or sometimes at the wrist, such as our bracelet.
Crafted in 18 karat yellow gold, with ridged golden beads between the twisted links, it has a First Communion medal with an inscription dated 1914. Another, larger charm, also in 18 karat gold is a reverse painted intaglio crystal depicting a swan, a symbol of grace, beauty and refinement. These pieces were commonly referred to as 'Essex Crystals' and were popular all over the world. We love the sentimentality of this piece! A romantic and special bracelet, sure to become a fond favorite in your collection.
