Cloisonné is an enamel technique where formed wires in closed shapes are affixed onto a base and then filled with enamel. The wires form the raised walls or partitions surrounding these individual cells. Guilloché, pronounced “gee-oh-shay,” is a mechanical engraving technique, produced by a special lathe or “rose machine,” that dates to the 17th century and was popularized during the Victorian Era. In fine jewelry, guilloche' is used to enhance the appearance of brooches and pendants. Guilloche' enamel refers to metal pieces that have been engraved and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the patterns underneath a colorful hue.

A bright yellow cloisonné enamel daffodil decorates the face of this antique brooch, contrasting perfectly with the turquoise guilloche background. This piece is crafted in 12 karat yellow gold and haloed with seed pearls. The perfect little brooch to welcome Spring!
