Antique 12K, Amethyst, Seed Pearl & Black Enamel Slide Pendant/Brooch

Essentially beads, slides were typically worn on very long chains, and were used to prevent them from tangling or straying across one's bodice. The chain would be run through the holes in the slide so that the pendant could "travel" up and down the chain, shortening and lengthening to one's desired measurement.

This one, made of 12 karat gold, is larger than the typical example, and has a pin on the reverse to help hold it in place, or to wear the piece as a brooch. With a glowing purple amethyst stone in the center, it is accented with seed pearls stationed at the North, South, East and West locations. Decorative black enamel provides a graphic background, creating a complementary contrast to the bright amethyst and white pearls. Wonderful on a chain, to wear as a lariat, or on a bracelet as a charm, it's a smart looking piece with that perfect balance of casual elegance so sought after today!
