Inscribed 31st January 1889, this brooch is as unusual as it is beautiful. Comprised of several elements arranged around a central bullseye agate with a pearl halo, the five opals and three amethysts highlight its beauty. To me, it looks like a tribute to the earth in the center being orbited by several moons. The pale white opals look like a full moon, and the amethysts seem like the new moon. Whether or not this was the intention of the artist is left to conjecture.
There is a question as to when the orbiters may have been added to the piece. What also makes this piece so appealing is the scrolled inscription on the back! It is unique and will surely garner many admiring glances.
