This imposing ring hosts nine sizable rose-cut diamonds with foils and closed back settings. Four smaller rose-cut diamonds fill in the spaces. All are set in silver with a gold back and shank in 14ct gold. The center diamond is foiled in pink as is the large center right one. The left center is foiled in yellow and all the rest are in green. The colors are subtle and show differently in different light sources.
The stylized floral pattern recalls the nine potent herbs found in a 10th century manuscript. A poem describes the combination of nine particular herbs intended as an antidote to snake venom and to heal infection. Derived from both Pagan and Christian sources, they were supposedly imbued with great healing powers. Perhaps this wonderful ring possesses some of that healing energy entwined in it's foliate curves. We estimate the age of this piece to be 1830-1880’s.
