Collar pins were utilized by both men and women to fasten a collar, or to secure a necktie or scarf. black enamel was often used to decorate mourning jewelry, and it was not uncommon for the pieces to be fashioned of gold filled metal. Given as keepsakes at funerals, they were chosen from an array of designs the undertaker provided.

This bar pin, or collar pin, is made of gold filled base metal, probably brass.  It has smart detailing in black enamel on either end, beautiful texturing and industrial looking pieces mounted on the top. A perfect pin for a Victorian gentleman to wear to a funeral, it now translates to unisex wear, and looks fabulous on a lapel, scarf or shoulder!
