This decorative enameled brooch, Circa 1880, is a great example of Victorian mourning jewelry. Mourning customs varied according to status; generally they were very detailed--women had to wear all black, including any decoration, for a designated period of time and were restricted in what they could do socially after the loss of a loved one. However, it didn't mean that they couldn't wear something beautiful! With a rather elaborate design of dancing Forget-Me-Nots made of tiny pearls on a black enamel background, accented and encased in 9 karat gold, our mourning brooch is as stylish and lovely as it was so long ago. This piece can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant.
