Mourning jewelry was made popular by Queen Victoria, who remained in mourning for forty years after the untimely death of her beloved Prince Albert.  Locks of the deceased's hair were often woven into intricate plaits and made into necklaces, watch chains, bracelets, and even earrings.

This unusual mourning brooch has a 14 karat yellow gold bow shaped frame, with finely woven black hair placed inside, mimicking a ribbon tied into a bow. A diamond shines from the 'knot', and seed pearls accent the 'loops'. A rare piece, sure to be coveted by all mourning and historic jewelry collectors!
