The era we now know as "Art Deco" received its name from the Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. The style embraced a cleaner line and more geometric shapes than seen in the past.  Emphasis was placed on the relationship between art and modern industry.

In 1917, David Belais of Belais Brothers submitted his special formula of white gold; the patent was applied for in October of 1918, and approved in 1920. The Belais alloy became so popular, that during the 1920s, white gold was sometimes referred to as “Belais metal.”

This handsome ring has all the trademarks of the enduring Art Deco era. With a rectangular onyx stone as the base for three gorgeous diamonds, it is set in a white gold shank with filigree work on the shoulders, which carries over into the basket. Beautifully structured, we can find within the filigree, recognizable motifs of hearts and bows, as well as more geometric shapes which were formerly associated with industrialism. The unification of the materials and the design are what Art Deco is all about. It's a must-have for anyone who admires this era!
