Victorians loved to use flowers as symbolism of certain attributes, as well as a means for secret communication between friends and lovers. Forget Me Not flowers were a favorite motif during this time.
During the mourning period of one year, widows wore only black. After that time, a few muted colors could be reintroduced to her wardrobe, with purple or lavender taking the lead.
This large faceted amethyst ring is crafted in 10 karat yellow gold, with a diamond petaled forget me not on the ring face. Haloed in seed pearls, the ring top is accented with stations of black enamel, indicating that this is a mourning ring, or half-mourning ring. Four diamond clovers complete the elaborate design, making a truly grandiose treasure. A wonderful example of the romantic Victorians and their use of floriography as well as their mourning customs!
